There are 1.2 Billion People With Disabilities, and a narrow market that caters to their needs.

“Paraplegia is a type of paralysis that affects your ability to move the lower half of your body.”

Mass-market garments are designed for standing - not sitting - a design flaw and a big loophole - something I wanted to solve.

The brief was to create easy, quick & well fitted clothing for paraplegic women leading active lifestyles.

Process at a glance

  • × Research

Conducted Primary & Secondary Research by speaking to women with Paraplegia and making notes from medical journals.

  • × Pain Points

Circled out common loopholes for PwD - garment space for a catheter, bed sores, falling necklines, non-functional thigh pockets, etc.

  • × Design Solutions

Sketched out functional solutions for the garments - corresponding to pain points.

  • × Prototype & Testing

Made a mock for fit checks & testing its viability. Pros: functional solutions were a success. Challenges: poor colour choice, ill-fitted.

  • × Awards

Presented the prototype at India’s first Adaptive Clothing Competition - received a special mention for our effort and attention to detail.

  • × What's Next?

The prototype is viable, and requires a few refinements before it can be added to the product stream of brands as a constant or a no-cost customisable feature.
